About the position

The Career Advisor position at the Department of Labor & Industry offers an opportunity to assist Pennsylvanians in securing gainful employment. The role involves providing professional employment services and outreach work to customers within a local workforce development area, developing and implementing plans for suitable employment, and working closely with both jobseekers and employers to address workforce needs.

Responsibilities

• Conduct vocational and career assessments of jobseekers to determine career objectives, interests, skills, and abilities.
• Identify suitability for and/or barriers to employment and training for jobseekers.
• Provide appropriate tools and resources for jobseekers to achieve employment goals.
• Promote PA CareerLink services to businesses, community organizations, and the public.
• Document activities and services in the Commonwealth Workforce Development System (CWDS).
• Develop and conduct orientations and workshops for jobseekers.
• Plan and conduct group and individualized career counseling sessions.
• Assist jobseekers and employers with PA CareerLink Online enrollment.
• Work with employers to determine their workforce needs and address recruitment and retention concerns.

Requirements

• Successful completion of the Career Advisor Trainee training program; or
• One year of experience interviewing the public to collect and identify customer needs, evaluating eligibility for programs, and researching data to make decisions, along with a bachelor's degree; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.
