About the position

The Career and Academic Coach, known as a Falcon Navigator, at Cedar Crest College provides personalized advising support to students throughout their academic journey. This role integrates academic advising, career counseling, and coaching strategies to help students set and achieve their academic and career goals. Navigators serve as the primary point of contact for students, assisting them from entry to graduation, and facilitating their return if they stop out. They also manage programs that enhance students' academic and career experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Provide academic advising, career counseling, and success coaching to assigned students.
  • Teach students how to translate their college experiences into language that reflects career competencies and marketable skills.
  • Help students develop Falcon Flight Plans and monitor progress towards goals.
  • Provide information about experiential learning opportunities and encourage participation.
  • Connect students to college and community resources to support persistence.
  • Serve as a primary academic advisor for assigned students regarding academic concerns and questions.
  • Manage the four-year guarantee program and three-year degree declaration process.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to create and deliver tools to integrate career, academic, and co-curricular experiences.
  • Maintain accurate records of student interactions.
  • Assist in the assessment and evaluation of the Navigator program.
  • Develop collaborative relationships with faculty and staff.
  • Serve as an active member of Academic Services, providing support to other programs as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Preferred: Master's degree in Higher Education or related field.
  • At least two years of related experience in higher education preferred; academic advising or career advising experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of student development theories.
  • Knowledge of academic advising theories and principles.
  • Familiarity with NACE career competencies and career development theories.
  • Self-motivated, flexible, and excited to be part of a new initiative.
  • Willingness to accept and incorporate feedback.
  • Ability to collaborate closely with faculty and staff.
  • Ability to prioritize workload and maintain high productivity with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to exhibit compassion, empathy, and good judgment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with data management and reporting in an academic setting.
  • Familiarity with tools such as Finish Line and Single Stop.
