About the position
The Career and College Counselor at Our Lady of Mercy School for Young Women is responsible for providing leadership and innovation in career and college advisement for students in grades 6-12. This role involves engaging students in career exploration, facilitating college readiness workshops, managing standardized test registrations, and collaborating with families to navigate the college and financial aid processes. The counselor will also develop relationships with college admissions officers and stay informed about the college admission landscape to support students effectively.
Responsibilities
- Engage students in career exploration for grades 6-12.
- Facilitate College Readiness workshops, including preparing curriculum lesson plans using Naviance.
- Manage the PSAT, SAT, and ACT registration process.
- Engage families in the career, college, and financial aid process through strategic communications and workshops.
- Plan and oversee events to support first generation, low income, underrepresented, and diverse students regarding college access and success.
- Develop and maintain relationships with college admissions officers and stay informed about the college admission landscape.
- Seek continuous professional development in college admissions counseling.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree
- Minimum five years experience in school counseling, college admissions, secondary education, or related field.
- Strong computer skills, including email communication and electronic document submission.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and also independently.
