About the position

The Career Coach at Hofstra University plays a vital role in delivering equitable career development education to students. Reporting to the Senior Associate Director, this position is focused on preparing students for their future careers through personalized coaching and advising. The Career Coach will provide workshops, presentations, and educational programs tailored to the diverse needs of the student population. This role emphasizes the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion, ensuring that these principles are integrated into all aspects of career development services. The Career Coach will also serve as a liaison to the faculty and dean's office within an assigned college, collaborating to enhance the overall student experience and facilitate a smooth transition from academic life to the workforce. In addition to one-on-one coaching, the Career Coach will develop and deliver career development workshops that address the unique challenges faced by students from marginalized identities. The position requires consistent engagement in professional development to stay informed about higher education administration, career theory, coaching techniques, and industry trends. The Career Coach will also be involved in large-scale programming across the department and university, including career fairs and orientation events, while maintaining accurate records of student engagement and program participation. This role is essential in promoting student learning, growth, and success both in and out of the classroom, contributing to student recruitment and retention efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 career coaching support to students with varying identities and experiences.
  • Develop and deliver career development workshops and educational programs considering the unique needs of marginalized students.
  • Collaborate with faculty and academic advisors to integrate career development into the student experience.
  • Engage in professional development to enhance knowledge of career coaching and industry trends.
  • Serve as a liaison to the faculty/dean's office, conducting outreach and offering support.
  • Facilitate program requests from faculty and collaborate on curriculum development for professional development courses.
  • Develop virtual resources and assessment tools for coaching and advising.
  • Support large-scale programming such as career fairs and orientation events.
  • Maintain accurate engagement records in office systems like Navigate and Handshake.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 1-3 years of experience in college student development, human resources, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of career development theories and NACE Career Readiness Competencies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in higher education, student affairs, counseling, or a related field preferred.
