About the position

The Career Coach position at Pulaski County Special School District is designed for the 2024-2025 school year and involves acting in a dual role as a counselor and case manager. The primary goal of this role is to assess clients' needs and provide direct support and services to participants. The Career Coach will work closely with students to help them explore various career options, set achievable goals, and develop essential job search skills, including resume preparation, job applications, and interview techniques. This position requires a strong commitment to fostering relationships with community partners and faith-based organizations to enhance program goals and ensure participants have access to necessary resources such as transportation, childcare, and housing. In addition to direct counseling, the Career Coach will be responsible for planning and hosting events to promote and recruit participants, conducting orientation meetings, and developing promotional materials for outreach. The role also involves maintaining electronic client files to generate reports, interpreting federal grant guidelines, and collaborating with TANF Case Managers to create subsidized employment opportunities. The Career Coach will assist in the preparation of education and training plans for participants, document participant progress, and ensure confidentiality of client records. This position is crucial in providing advising, mentoring, and case management services to students enrolled in approved programs, ultimately supporting their journey towards successful employment and education outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Assist students in exploring careers, goal setting, job search skills, resume preparation, job applications and interview skills.
  • Refer participants to Adult Education instructor or other staff for testing, entering post-secondary and training and apprenticeship programs.
  • Connect clients to resources such as transportation, childcare, housing, counseling, etc.
  • Plan and host events and activities to promote and recruit participants.
  • Conduct orientation meetings for participants and partner agency counselors.
  • Develop and distribute promotional materials to partners to assist in outreach and recruitment.
  • Maintain electronic client files in order to generate monthly, quarterly and yearly reports.
  • Interpret and respond to federal grant guidelines.
  • Work with TANF Case Managers to create subsidized employment opportunities with local employers.
  • Foster relationships with community partners and faith-based organizations to enhance the program goals.
  • Conduct and review assessment for clients/students interested in enrolling in TANF certificate programs to determine eligibility.
  • Assist in the preparation of the education and training plan for participants.
  • Refer clients/students to adult education or short-term certificate programs.
  • Assist students eligible to enroll in certificate programs with the enrollment process.
  • Provide access to advising, mentoring and/or case management services for students enrolled in approved program goals.
  • Assist partner agency staff in providing support services to their participants enrolled in approved programs at the college.
  • Certify eligibility for participation and reimbursement upon enrollment and monthly thereafter for adult education and community partners.
  • Maintain attendance records for all information sessions, orientation and other events.
  • Document participant progress from intake through assessment, enrollment and program completion in individual case files.
  • Identify participant support service needs and document all referrals.
  • Report on client/student successes, lessons learned and other anecdotal reports as necessary to provide comprehensive reports.
  • Prepare files for federal yearly audit.
  • Serve on assigned committees and task forces within the adult education program.
  • Attend and participate in committee, staff, information and professional meetings related to the TANF Program and adult education.
  • Maintain complete confidentiality of client/student records and other information of a confidential nature.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Arkansas Teacher certification
  • Must earn a Career Services Provider Certificate within one year of employment
  • Experience with crisis intervention, motivational interviewing and effective listening
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge and ability in academic and skills assessment methods
  • Knowledge of Federal/State grant management
  • Familiarity with labor market information and career development strategies
  • Experience in mentoring or advising
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Experience in training and/or outreach activities
  • Relevant experience in education preferred
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations
  • Information technology literacy skills
  • Well organized with excellent leadership skills.

Benefits

  • Salary Range: Teacher Salary Schedule (Placement depends upon education and experience)
  • Length of Contract: 190 days per contract year
