About the position

Luther College seeks a Career Coach and Internship Manager who will report directly to the Director of the Career Center. This position is responsible for the cultivation and coordination of credit-bearing and non-credit-bearing internships at Luther College. The individual will support the work of the Curriculum Integration Manager and the Director of Experiential Learning by providing customized coaching, content creation, and administrative support for Luther's internship programming, including the internship funding program. The Career Coach and Internship Manager will utilize Handshake for managing internship promotion and registration. This role is focused on generalized career education and provides support in equipping students to make connections between their education and the world of work. The individual will provide coaching on various topics including career and self-exploration, internship, and job search, helping students develop informed career paths.

Responsibilities

  • Offer personalized one-on-one career coaching within the integrative advising program to help students explore career paths, set goals, and develop comprehensive action plans that align with their academic and personal aspirations.
  • Work with the Director to coordinate the marketing, application, and dispersal of funds for the Internship Funding Program, upon final approval of the Career Center Director and Director of Financial Aid.
  • Foster mutually-beneficial relationships among community agencies and businesses, coordinating the development of internship opportunities for students in partnership with the Employer Engagement strategy of the Career Center.
  • Build and maintain an active database of internship sites available to Luther students.
  • In collaboration with the Director and campus stakeholders, cultivate internship opportunities for Luther students with key employers.
  • Deliver engaging classroom presentations and workshops on key career topics such as career and self-exploration, job search strategies, resume writing, and interview preparation.
  • Organize and facilitate opportunities to connect students with alumni and industry professionals through networking opportunities and mentoring programs.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to integrate career skills into courses and extracurricular activities, ensuring students are well-prepared for their future careers.
  • Provide general office related tasks (e.g. answering Career Center phone and email, front desk coverage, and other administrative support) as needed.
  • Serve as the primary departmental web manager for the Career Center website, maintaining the website as needed.
  • Manage Career Center subscriptions, ensuring timely payment. Collaborate with the Career Center team to evaluate and promote resources.
  • Manage Career Center lending library, departmental supplies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent combination of experience, training, or education.
  • Experience in career counseling, experiential learning and/or program development and implementation strongly preferred.
  • Experience with partnership development (including MOUs, articulation agreements, and other partnership agreements).
  • At least two to four years of experience as part of a student-facing program, preferably at a private residential liberal arts college.
  • Strong coaching skills with the ability to understand college student needs and concerns.
  • Interpersonal communication skills and the ability to build rapport and work successfully with students, faculty, staff, and employers.
  • Ability to organize, develop, market, and present programs and career-related activities.
  • Strong organization and analytical skills.
  • Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents, and friends of the college.
