About the position

The Career Coach (Bilingual Spanish) position at SER Metro-Detroit involves assessing customers' career readiness and providing tailored career coaching services. The role focuses on developing individual career plans, enhancing marketability through training referrals, and ensuring customers are connected with job placement services. The coach will also maintain case reporting and engage with customers requiring additional support, all while working in a diverse environment.

Responsibilities

  • Interviews customers to assess service needs and reviews documentation to identify barriers.
  • Develops a Career Plan with customers that outlines interests, goals, needs, and placement strategies.
  • Assesses job readiness and recommends strategies to enhance marketability, including referrals to training and workshops.
  • Identifies service gaps and implements Career Plans, preparing reports on barriers to services.
  • Provides counseling and supportive services to address barriers to program completion.
  • Ensures customers are connected with job placement services and collaborates with Talent Sourcing Specialist.
  • Maintains case reporting in MIS systems and customer files, documenting program activities and progress.
  • Re-engages customers needing additional employment and career coaching services.
  • Maintains knowledge of labor market trends and makes policy recommendations to management.
  • Attends meetings to address participant concerns and conducts home visits as necessary.

Requirements

  • Experience in career planning, placement, employment, training, or a related field preferred.
  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • Knowledge of education, training, community resources, and career coaching principles.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population and communicate effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
  • Bilingual language skills in Spanish and English required.
  • Valid Michigan Driver's License and reliable transportation.
