About the position

The Construction Career Coach plays a vital role in supporting young adults aged 18-25 in achieving their educational and employment aspirations. This position is situated within the POIC's Work Opportunities Training department, which is dedicated to assisting underserved youth in their journey towards self-sufficiency and economic success. The Career Coach will engage with participants on a personal level, helping them navigate the complexities of employment contracts that are tied to long-term outcomes. This role requires a strong commitment to maintaining meticulous records and data, ensuring that all interactions and progress are documented accurately. In this position, the Career Coach will conduct outreach efforts to recruit and enroll clients, maintaining a caseload of up to 40 individuals. The role involves developing relationships with local employers to create job placement opportunities and facilitating lessons on job readiness, employment skills, and financial literacy. The Career Coach will also conduct orientations for youth, manage essential paperwork, and collaborate with various POIC departments to deliver comprehensive services across program sites. Additionally, the Coach will work closely with employer partners to provide diverse work experience opportunities for clients, ensuring that they receive the necessary support services, such as clothing and transportation, to succeed in their roles. The position demands a collaborative spirit, as the Career Coach will work within a team environment, taking direction from supervisors and contributing to a cooperative atmosphere. The role also requires a commitment to punctuality and regular attendance, as well as a proactive approach to addressing barriers that young adults face in achieving sustainable employment. Other duties may be assigned as needed, reflecting the dynamic nature of the role and the organization's commitment to responsive service delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct outreach, recruit, enroll, and maintain a caseload of up to 40 clients, focusing on people ages 18-25.
  • Coordinate outreach, develop relationships with local employers, and create mechanisms for clients to access continuing education or job placement opportunities.
  • Plan and facilitate job readiness, employment skills, and financial literacy lessons.
  • Conduct youth orientations and collect/manage essential forms and paperwork.
  • Build relationships with assigned clients and potentially the partner agencies affiliated with them.
  • Collaborate with the Work Opportunities Training (WOT) team and other POIC departments to deliver services across program sites.
  • Collaborate with employer partners to develop opportunities for clients of diverse skill levels to obtain work experience.
  • Offer support services, including clothing and transportation necessary for position requirements and to support successful job completions.
  • Document all client interaction, progress, participation, and data in a workforce development-specific database system daily.
  • Maintain detailed, organized, and updated files in compliance with local and federal government contractors.
  • Research promising practices for serving low-income clients and approaches to alleviating poverty to ensure that the program model is dynamic and responsive to client needs.
  • Work with POIC's community-based programs to address barriers to sustainable employment.
  • Maintain punctual, regular, and predictable attendance.
  • Work collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation.
  • Respectfully take direction from supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required.
