About the position

The Career Coach for Early College Programs at the University of Arkansas Fort Smith plays a pivotal role in guiding students towards achieving their career aspirations. This position is designed to assist students, particularly those from low-income families and those with disabilities, in identifying their career goals through both personal and group consultations. The Career Coach will engage in early outreach efforts to educate students and their parents about the significance of postsecondary education, as well as provide them with accurate information on how to prepare for and finance their education. By leveraging leadership, advocacy, and collaboration, the Career Coach will implement a comprehensive program that addresses the personal, social, academic, and career development needs of students. In this role, the Career Coach will serve as a student advocate, ensuring that students have the necessary support to succeed academically and personally. Responsibilities include collaborating with high school counselors, presenting information to groups and individuals at high schools, maintaining student records, and scheduling career development activities as mandated by grant requirements. The Career Coach will also perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Early College Programs to meet the objectives of the grant. This position is funded by the Arkansas Department of Education and is a twelve-month role that reports directly to the Director of Early College Programs.

Responsibilities

  • Assist students in identifying career goals through personal and group consultations.
  • Provide early outreach to students from low-income families and with disabilities, educating them and their parents about postsecondary education.
  • Promote academic and personal success by implementing a comprehensive program addressing personal, social, academic, and career needs.
  • Serve as a student advocate and ensure student success.
  • Collaborate with high school counselors and present information to groups and individuals at high schools.
  • Maintain accurate student records and assist in scheduling career development activities as required by the grant.
  • Develop career development initiatives and foster connections with external stakeholders.
  • Promote the program with external groups such as economic developers, businesses, and local agencies.
  • Maintain accurate records of participant interactions and prepare reports as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree is required.
  • Two to three years of related experience preferred.
  • Facilitating Career Development Certification preferred.
  • Master's degree is preferred.
  • Prior work with high school students is a plus.
  • Knowledge of FERPA and the highly confidential nature and scope of this position.
