About the position

The Career Coach in Education at Stony Brook University is responsible for empowering students through career coaching, programming, and outreach. This role focuses on providing individualized and group coaching to help students navigate job and internship searches, develop personal branding, and enhance their professional presentation skills. The position also involves organizing events, liaising with academic departments, and utilizing career management software to track student placements and opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Coach and prepare students individually and in groups on job/internship search strategies.
• Guide students on the use of Handshake and other career tools; conduct mock interviews and critique application materials.
• Organize face-to-face and virtual programs to prepare students for the workforce.
• Provide logistical support for employer-student events such as career fairs and networking meet-ups.
• Serve as a liaison to select academic departments, faculty, and career-focused student organizations.
• Use career center management software to collect data and track placements.
• Participate in professional development opportunities and contribute to the Division of Student Affairs.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher).
• Two (2) years of full-time administrative experience (student experience may be considered).

Nice-to-haves

• Master's degree (foreign equivalent or higher).
• Career or academic coaching experience within a diverse college population.
• Experience designing and presenting face-to-face and virtual content for a diverse college-educated audience.
• Experience with technology applications, such as online career research databases and career networking sites.

Benefits

• Base salary of $57,000
• $3,400 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly
• Eligibility for overtime provisions of the FLSA
