About the position

The Career Coach position at Wake Technical Community College is a grant-funded, time-limited role focused on managing career development and employability skills for diverse student and alumni populations. The role involves collaboration with faculty, staff, and employers to support the career trajectories of students and alumni through counseling, workshops, and programming that promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Responsibilities

  • Leads one-on-one and group career counseling (in-person and virtually) targeting students' career ideas and trajectories.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with students, alumni, and the college community.
  • Collaborates with the team to plan and manage department-sponsored events, including workshops and professional development training.
  • Manages relationships with faculty and staff to develop and implement programming that complements instruction and student learning.
  • Delivers workshops within courses and as standalone events in various formats, including online.
  • Administers assessment instruments and career guidance information to assess individual traits and align them with career opportunities.
  • Promotes and creates a diverse, equitable, and inclusive community through advocacy and outreach.
  • Manages operation of satellite Career Services offices as assigned.
  • Tracks and documents services provided and ongoing projects to identify trends and improve offerings.
  • Assesses needs of students, faculty, and staff, connecting them with appropriate resources for career development.
  • Represents the department in internal and external meetings and events.
  • Maintains the protection of student records in accordance with FERPA regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Education, Psychology, or a related field.
  • One year of experience working in career services, including practicum or internship experiences.
  • Experience in a higher education setting or with business, industry, or government in training and development, experiential learning, or job placement.
  • Valid driver's license with approval required by the College's Liability Insurance Carrier.

  • Master's degree in counseling, higher education, or related fields.
