About the position

The Career Coach II position at the University of Texas at Dallas is a vital role within the ECS Student Services department, focusing on providing professional development coaching to students and alumni of the Jonsson School. The primary responsibilities include guiding students through job search strategies, skill development, interview preparation, networking, and resume writing. The coach will develop and lead interactive workshops tailored to student needs, while also collaborating with Employer Relations to assess industry requirements and gather data to inform student services. This role is essential in promoting internship programs and encouraging student participation in various ECS events and services. Additionally, the Career Coach will assist international students with work authorization processes, ensuring compliance with employment policies and maintaining accurate records of student interactions. The position requires a proactive approach to career advising, where the coach will provide one-on-one support and facilitate group workshops aimed at enhancing students' professional skills. The Career Coach will also be responsible for collecting and interpreting employment data, collaborating with faculty and industry contacts to address student needs, and representing ECS Career Services in the absence of the Director. This role is integral to fostering a supportive environment for students as they navigate their career paths and develop the skills necessary for success in the workforce.

Responsibilities

  • Provide students with career advising, including resume review, interview preparation, job search strategizing, and other professional development activities through multiple modes of communication.
  • Develop and lead interactive student-focused workshops and programs with measurable outcomes, including internships, mentoring, and professional development programs.
  • Collaborate with Employer Relations to meet with employers and determine industry needs, facilitating student engagement opportunities.
  • Collect, interpret, and report employment, internship, and first destination data.
  • Collaborate with departments and industry contacts to fulfill student needs.
  • Assist students with the CPT process: verify information, collect and submit documentation to update students' I-20, troubleshoot student issues, evaluate work reports, and ensure compliance with employment and program policies and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records of all student contacts using office systems.
  • Participate in and contribute to University and Jonsson School activities as needed.
  • Provide administrative support in the development, implementation, and marketing of programs/projects.
  • Serve as a liaison between students, faculty, staff, and other departments and/or external constituencies in the implementation and administration of program objectives.
  • Work with faculty to develop and promote integrated professional development opportunities.
  • Work with student organizations to develop and promote professional development opportunities.
  • Represent ECS Career Services in the absence of the Director of Career Services and Professional Development.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of experience in a related career field or a master's degree in a related field with one (1) year of experience; OR the equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
  • Knowledge of career guidance, counseling, and coaching best practices.
  • Experience with software applications that facilitate the job search process, career advising, and professional development activities.
  • Knowledge of student development theory.
  • Experience leading training or professional development workshops.
  • Ability to work one-on-one with students and in groups.
  • Ability to use multi-modal communication technology.
