About the position

The Career Coach for In School Youth (ISY) in Saginaw County is responsible for recruiting and supporting at-risk youth in their career development and educational pursuits. This role involves engaging participants in WIOA and JMG programs, facilitating workshops, and providing follow-up services to ensure successful outcomes. The coach will work closely with diverse populations, helping individuals overcome barriers to employment and achieve self-sufficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit participants for enrollment into WIOA In School Youth (ISY) and JMG programs.
  • Determine eligibility and suitability for WIOA ISY and/or JMG programs.
  • Enrollment and engagement of WIOA ISY & JMG Participants.
  • Provide follow-up services for WIOA ISY & JMG completers.
  • Assist individuals with career exploration, assessments, barrier removal, GED/HS completion and/or post-secondary training to obtain self-sufficient employment.
  • Facilitate employability skills workshops -- both in-person and virtually.
  • Ensure the WIOA Youth 14 Elements are offered and available to all ISY enrollments.
  • Ability to recruit and set up work experience sites for the ISY.
  • Schedule and arrange Talent Tours.
  • Development of Individual Service Strategies (ISS), ISS Action Plans and Objective Assessments.
  • Ability to help job seekers with resumes and cover letters, including proofreading.
  • Maintain professional image.
  • Proficient with the use of computers, Office/TEAMS, Edmentum, ZOOM, DocuSign, Internet & Email.
  • Have knowledge of local community service agencies and resources in the Great Lakes Bay Region and specifically Midland County.
  • Have knowledge of agencies/services provided at Michigan Works!
  • Participate and contribute to committee work/teamwork, willing to learn and use Goal4It Career Coach processes and strategies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree with preferred emphasis in Human Services.
  • Able to work with diverse populations.
  • Proven record of excellent customer service.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents.
  • Demonstrate good communication and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in public speaking.
  • Experience with Office/TEAMS, Edmentum, ZOOM, DocuSign, Internet, Email.
  • Team player.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous successful experience working with Michigan Works! Programs.
  • Previous experience working with at-risk youth with barriers to employment.
  • Knowledge of Great Lakes Bay Region and specifically Midland County.
  • Knowledge of Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act (WIOA) programs.
  • Knowledge of Jobs for Michigan's Graduates (JMG) Program.
