About the position

The Career Coach for International Students at Stony Brook University is responsible for empowering and supporting diverse college students in their career development. This role involves providing individualized and group coaching on job search strategies, personal branding, and professional presentation. The position also includes organizing events, serving as a liaison to academic departments, and utilizing career management software to track student placements. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment and contribute to the overall mission of the Division of Student Affairs.

Responsibilities

  • Coach and prepare students individually and in groups on job/internship search strategies.
  • Help students clarify career interests and compose strong personal branding and applications.
  • Guide students on the use of Handshake and other career tools; conduct mock interviews and critique application materials.
  • Organize face-to-face and virtual programs to prepare students for the workforce.
  • Provide logistical support for employer-student events such as career fairs and networking meet-ups.
  • Serve as a liaison to select academic departments, faculty, and career-focused student organizations.
  • Use career center management software to collect data and track placements in collaboration with VIS.
  • Review, approve, and promote opportunities posted in the recruitment system, Handshake.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to promote personal growth and development.
  • Contribute to events and programs sponsored by areas within and outside the Office of Student Life.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher).
  • Two (2) years of full-time administrative experience (student experience may be considered).

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree (foreign equivalent or higher).
  • Career or academic coaching experience within a diverse college population.
  • Experience designing and presenting face-to-face and virtual content for a diverse college-educated audience.
  • Experience with technology applications, such as online career research databases and career networking sites.
  • Experience with international student needs.

Benefits

  • $3,400 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.
  • Full-time appointment with eligibility for overtime provisions of the FLSA.
