About the position

The Career Coach is a part-time role focused on supporting high school students in career development and college enrollment processes. This position involves working closely with local high schools, conducting workshops, and maintaining communication with students and faculty to facilitate career awareness and exploration. The Career Coach will also assist with advising and registration during the summer months, ensuring students are informed about educational opportunities at South Piedmont Community College (SPCC).

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a plan for reaching students and families, including campus tours and information events.
  • Maintain communication with currently enrolled high school students and applicants.
  • Contact and meet with high school counselors and teachers to explain SPCC program benefits.
  • Work with high school CTE departments to create career awareness opportunities.
  • Participate in classroom visitations, career expos, and college fairs to discuss program options.
  • Administer career assessments and provide career advising to students.
  • Assist high school students with the enrollment process and career options.
  • Advise and register high school students in compliance with regulations.
  • Serve as a liaison to connect students with SPCC campus support resources.
  • Maintain a caseload of students at local high schools.
  • Communicate with SPCC faculty to understand programs of study and career opportunities.
  • Collaborate with academic deans to identify educational opportunities for students.
  • Document and maintain records of student advising sessions and applicant data.
  • Participate in Career Coach training and professional development activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • One year of related work experience within the past five years in career development, advising, or school counseling.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual in Spanish
  • Bachelor's degree in education, human services, counseling, or a related field.
  • Experience working within a high school setting.
  • Experience with dually enrolled high school/college students.
  • Experience working in a community college.
  • A minimum of two years full-time direct work experience in academic advising and/or career counseling.
