About the position

The Career Coach is a part-time role focused on supporting high school students in Anson and Union County by providing career guidance, facilitating workshops, and assisting with the enrollment process at South Piedmont Community College (SPCC). The position involves collaboration with high school staff and students to promote SPCC programs and ensure students are informed about career opportunities and educational pathways.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a plan for reaching students and families, including campus tours and information events.
  • Maintain communication with currently enrolled high school students and applicants.
  • Meet with high school counselors and teachers to explain SPCC program offerings.
  • Work with the high school CTE department to create career awareness opportunities.
  • Participate in classroom visitations, career expos, and college fairs to discuss program options.
  • Administer career assessments and provide career advising to students.
  • Assist high school students with the enrollment process and career options.
  • Advise and register high school students in compliance with regulations.
  • Serve as a liaison to connect students with SPCC campus support resources.
  • Maintain a caseload of students at local high schools.
  • Communicate regularly with SPCC faculty about programs of study and career opportunities.
  • Collaborate with academic deans to identify educational opportunities for students.
  • Document and maintain records of student advising sessions.
  • Complete documentation and reporting in compliance with the grant.
  • Participate in Career Coach training and professional development activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • One year of related work experience within the past five years, including career development or advising experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual in Spanish
  • Bachelor's degree in education, human services, counseling, or a related field.
  • Experience working within a high school setting.
  • Experience working with dually enrolled high school/college students.
  • Experience working in a community college.
  • A minimum of two years full-time direct work experience in academic advising and/or career counseling.
