About the position

The Career Coach for the Strides Program at Goodwill Industries of Greater Grand Rapids is responsible for providing employment services and support to individuals facing barriers to employment. This community-based role requires a compassionate and self-motivated individual who can assist participants in achieving their employment goals through innovative and person-centered planning. The position offers a flexible schedule and requires the ability to engage with diverse populations while providing transportation to various community sites.

Responsibilities

  • Assist participants in developing skills needed to learn job responsibilities and acclimate to the work culture for long-term employment and self-sufficiency.
  • Act as a liaison between employer, participants, and GWI staff to meet Goodwill's mission and business needs.
  • Provide respectful, innovative, person-centered planning services to maximize goal attainment.
  • Facilitate job retention by building natural supports, job coaching, monitoring progress, and mentoring as needed.
  • Track and enter all data into database systems as assigned.
  • Process file documentation to appropriate organizations and/or GWI staff.
  • Provide employment counseling, advocacy, and support.
  • Promote collaborative efforts within program-specific teams and organization-wide services.
  • Assist participants in creating career goals and accessing necessary tools, training, or services.
  • Identify additional barriers to employment and assess appropriateness of training/placement services.
  • Maintain regular contact with participants, funders, and employers to monitor progress and update goals as necessary.
  • Provide job placement and retention services by connecting participants with employers and job opportunities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Education, or a related field required.
  • Prefer one-year experience in a human service setting providing direct and/or supportive services to individuals with disabilities and/or barriers to employment.
  • Must be able to provide own transportation to various community sites.
