About the position

The SUNY Oswego Career Services office operates within an award-winning 'Career Community' model of program and service delivery. They have full-time professionals who have developed high-level expertise in various industries and work hard to create and evolve customized resources, programs, services, and networking relationships in order to offer a highly diverse student population a much more impactful level of personalized career coaching. They have broken up the world of work into several categories that include: Business; Healthcare and STEM; Communication, Media & the Arts; and Education, Public & Human Services. Within each of these areas, they have a highly capable staff member creating a sphere of support for students that spans the entire career development cycle and brings together faculty, alumni, employers, graduate school representatives, and much more. This results in more meaningful assistance and expertise for our students, better employer and graduate school connections, and tailored on and offline resources. The Office of Career Services at the State University of New York at Oswego invites applications to fill two full-time 12-month Career Coach positions.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute major career development plans, programs, and events in collaboration with a variety of on/off campus partners
  • Identify, articulate to, and assist students in developing the high demand essential skills needed to successfully compete for internships, co-ops, and full-time jobs
  • Collaborate closely with related employers, alumni, students, and student clubs/organizations
  • Develop and conduct presentations on a variety of career development related topics
  • Partner with related academic disciplines to integrate career development into curriculum
  • Advise students and alumni through the career development process
  • Contribute to the enrollment, retention, and graduation goals related to SUNY Oswego's long-range 'Vision 4040.'

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree by time of appointment
  • Minimum of one year of experience in college career services or related field, to include internships or Graduate Assistant positions
  • Experience in planning and implementing programs, events, or conferences
  • Experience in coaching others on career-related issues
  • Strong interpersonal, written, verbal communication and presentation skills

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in coaching students and/or alumni on job search strategies, assisting with job search documents, and/or developing interviewing skills
  • Experience assisting students in identifying and articulating high demand skills to employers
  • Demonstrated success in networking with internal and external partners to maximize opportunities for student success
  • Experience in using social media and other technological tools to engage students in the career development process
  • Demonstrated ability in development of professional online and printed resources
