About the position

The Career Coach position within the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) at CareerSource Hillsborough Pinellas is a vital role responsible for guiding customers through their career and employment planning processes. This position entails comprehensive case management, ensuring that customers receive the necessary support to achieve self-sufficient employment. The Career Coach will work closely with individuals to provide coaching on program requirements, job search strategies, vocational training, and educational opportunities. The role is designed to empower customers by developing individualized career plans that align with their specific goals and the standards of the local program. In this position, the Career Coach will coordinate services for customers, which includes the development and implementation of Career Plans, Individualized Training Accounts (ITAs), and ongoing assessments of customer progress. The coach will ensure that customers understand the parameters of the program and will work collaboratively to address any barriers they may face in gaining employment. This involves creating resolution plans and setting achievable outcome dates, as well as providing referrals to local partnering agencies when necessary. The Career Coach will also conduct orientations and workshops to educate customers about available resources and opportunities. The role requires a proactive approach to monitoring customer progress through regular contact and adjustments to their employment plans as needed. The Career Coach will be responsible for maintaining accurate records in the program's data tracking system and submitting required reports. This position is essential in helping individuals navigate their career paths and achieve stable, unsubsidized employment, contributing to the overall mission of CareerSource Tampa Bay.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate services to customers including the development, implementation, and tracking of Career Plans and ITAs.
  • Ensure the applicant understands the parameters of the particular program offered.
  • Develop an individualized career goal-oriented plan based on specific objectives and local program standard operating procedures.
  • Address all customer identified needs and barriers to gaining employment.
  • Develop appropriate resolution plans and expected outcome achievement dates with customers.
  • Provide referrals as needed through local partnering agencies.
  • Coordinate the customer's participation in program specific activities.
  • Provide clear guidance and expectations of the program the customer is working in.
  • Develop Individualized Training Accounts with customers, including financial plans and budget matrices.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of the customer's strengths and needs.
  • Review assessments and document customer employment and training suitability.
  • Determine eligibility for funding such as financial aid programs, PELL grants, and scholarships.
  • Provide consistent employment plan progress checks through meaningful monthly contact with customers.
  • Input data collection and update all progress in the program designated data tracking system.
  • Refer customers to recruiters for job placement as local policy dictates.
  • Serve as an initial point of contact for walk-in applicants.
  • Conduct orientation and various workshops for new and existing customers as needed.
  • Maintain and submit program required reports as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Services or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • One year of related experience or a combination of experience in counseling/social services/job placement in various jobs in private industry.
  • Florida Workforce Professional Certification Tier I required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, etc.).
  • Valid Florida Driver's License.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of principles and procedures for providing customer and personal services.
  • Knowledge of online job exchange systems and keyword search engines.
  • Knowledge of Federal & State laws and regulations relating to public employment services.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to provide optimal customer service and act as a customer advocate.
  • Knowledge of current standards for resumes and basic job requirements.
  • Knowledge of community services including housing, food, and clothing.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
