About the position

The Career Coach position at JVS SoCal is a temporary role focused on providing individualized career services to participants in workforce development programs. The coach will welcome customers, assess their needs, and create tailored employment plans while ensuring compliance with county funding agency requirements. The role involves facilitating job opportunities, maintaining case records, and delivering workshops on job search strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome customers and identify their needs to create a positive experience.
  • Meet and exceed performance and outcome goals set by the county funding agency.
  • Provide substantial service on a monthly basis to enrolled participants.
  • Create and close job opportunities for qualified participants based on their training and work experience.
  • Maintain Individual Training Accounts (ITA), On-the-Job-Training (OJT) opportunities, and apprenticeship opportunities.
  • Develop and facilitate Individual Employment Plans (IEP) for participants.
  • Facilitate supportive services with proper documentation and record activities in CalJOBSSM.
  • Maintain updated case notes and placement records in the database.
  • Provide data reporting of participant activity as needed.
  • Identify participants' employment needs through effective interview techniques.
  • Maintain timely documentation and reports according to program guidelines.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community partners to deliver comprehensive services.
  • Follow labor market trends to identify growth industries and occupations.
  • Provide referrals to community partners and agencies as necessary.
  • Administer and interpret various assessment tools.
  • Assist individuals in identifying goals and preparing for employment.
  • Develop individual employment and training plans that address employer needs and job-seeker capabilities.
  • Make group presentations and deliver workshops on resume preparation and job searching strategies.
  • Attend training and/or meetings as scheduled.

Requirements

  • Bilingual in Spanish.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • 2 years of experience in Workforce Development or career counseling.
  • Demonstrated experience in case management.
  • Strong writing skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders in written and oral form.
  • Experience working with dislocated workers and high-risk populations.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to write clear and concise case notes.
  • Good judgment and interpersonal skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Preferred BA or BS degree in Career Counseling, Communications, or related field.
  • Experience in a WorkSource Center.
  • Bilingual in other community-based languages.
