About the position

The Career Coach for Veterans position at JVS SoCal focuses on assisting veterans in their transition to civilian employment. The role involves conducting eligibility determinations, providing comprehensive case management, facilitating job readiness workshops, and developing employment plans tailored to veterans' skills. The coach will also engage in outreach to recruit eligible veterans and their spouses for various programs, ensuring they meet contract goals for job placement and retention.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct eligibility determination of Veterans for the Veterans American Job Center of California (AJCC) and other programs.
  • Provide comprehensive case management including employability assessment and employment training plan development.
  • Coach Veterans on appropriate civilian and business workplace culture.
  • Facilitate job readiness workshops and provide training in job readiness skills.
  • Research career paths that utilize Veterans' existing skills.
  • Assist clients in writing targeted resumes.
  • Track client data in internal and State databases through data entry and comprehensive case notes.
  • Develop working relationships with other agencies that provide services to Veterans.
  • Work as part of a team in developing new grants and funding opportunities.
  • Meet weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly program goals as set by the Operations Manager.
  • Conduct outreach in the Greater Los Angeles area to recruit eligible Veterans and spouses.

Requirements

  • Passion to work and connect with Veterans.
  • Strong customer service and counseling expertise with the ability to multi-task.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to write professional resumes.
  • Understanding of active duty Military life and labor market.
  • Knowledge of technology-based career search methods and social media.
  • Ability to teach the value of networking.
  • Timeliness and attention to detail.
  • Initiative and ability to think outside the box while working as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of WIOA common measures and requirements is helpful.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Assertive, friendly, and willing to work flexible hours.

Nice-to-haves

  • Background and experience in Case Management and/or Career Counseling.
  • Prior WIOA and/or VEAP experience.
