About the position

The Career Coach for the Youth Program in Kent County is responsible for assisting participants in achieving their training and employment goals through interviews, assessments, and referrals. This full-time role involves case management, data management, and delivering services aligned with program objectives, while also providing support for barriers to employment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide initial and extended interviews and assessments with participants to identify needs, interests, and abilities.
  • Assist participants in developing Individual Services Strategies and employment plans that fit their aptitudes, educational levels, physical abilities, and career goals.
  • Provide information about Michigan Works programs and assist with program selection based on individual interest and eligibility.
  • Assess and refer participants to appropriate workshops or paid trainings to upgrade existing skills.
  • Provide crisis intervention counseling and referrals addressing barriers to job search and employment.
  • Maintain knowledge of resources available and refer participants to agencies or community services for assistance.
  • Monitor and record participants' progress to ensure training and employment goals are met.
  • Attend career coach meetings and review new policies and procedures.
  • Prepare and maintain records and case files, including documentation of services provided and client contacts.
  • Meet or exceed established Agency performance expectations.
  • Attend professional development activities and participate in continuous quality improvement processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
  • Two to four years' experience in workforce development or equivalent training and experience.
  • Knowledge of information technology and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective communication in oral and written form.
  • Experience in public speaking and organizational skills.
  • Planning and time management skills with adaptability to changing priorities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with various stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of relevant human service programs and policies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in crisis intervention counseling.
  • Familiarity with community resources and services for job seekers.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary range of $44,401 - $62,176 annually.
