About the position

In addition to one-on-one coaching, the Career Coach will conduct in-person career sessions in collaboration with faculty members, providing students with valuable insights into internship and job opportunities. The position requires the ability to conduct mock interviews, assist with business writing such as cover letters and emails, and help students develop tailored job search strategies. The Career Coach will also play a vital role in reviewing and enhancing students' resumes to ensure they meet industry standards and effectively highlight their qualifications. The Career Coach will be responsible for developing and implementing effective coaching strategies to assist students in overcoming employment-related challenges. This includes tracking student progress and employability, conducting outreach, and collecting data on internship placements and post-graduation outcomes. Participation in professional development opportunities is essential to stay updated on best practices and trends in career coaching and undergraduate recruiting. The role may also involve other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall mission of the Career Services department.

Responsibilities

  • Advise and educate students in their career search through individual career coaching and potentially small group advising.
  • Aid students on accessing their Handshake account.
  • Conduct in-person career sessions in coordination with faculty.
  • Provide information to students on career-related topics such as internship and job opportunities, employer and recruiting trends, utilization of job search tools, interview preparation, offer evaluation, salary negotiation, etc.
  • Conduct mock interviews, business writing (including emails and cover letters), and LinkedIn reviews, and help create individual job search strategies.
  • Assist students in reviewing and improving their resumes, ensuring they align with industry standards and effectively showcase their qualifications.
  • Develop and implement effective coaching strategies to help students overcome employment-related challenges and navigate their career paths.
  • Participate in appropriate professional development opportunities to stay current on best practices and trends in career coaching and undergraduate recruiting.
  • Track student progress and employability, conduct outreach, and collect internship and post-graduation destination information.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in related field.
  • 1-2 years of experience in a field working as a career coach, counselor or similar role.
  • Knowledge of higher education and career development initiatives such as student activities programming, student leadership development skills and organizational management.
  • Knowledge of current regulations governing recruitment, affirmative action and equal employment opportunity and their impact upon collegiate career development recruiting programs.
  • Knowledge of federal regulations regarding the administration of Job Location and Development Program and Federal Work Study Program.
  • Knowledge of career development theories and proficiency in career counseling as demonstrated by advanced education and supervised counseling experiences.
  • Ability to collaborate across complex teams both internally and externally.
  • Ability to coordinate and lead special projects associated with collegiate career development and the implementation of such to constituents.
