About the position

The MPA Career Coach plays a crucial role in the Manufacturing Pre-Apprenticeship program (MPA) at Impact NW, which is designed to empower young individuals aged 17-24 by providing them with the necessary skills and resources to succeed in the manufacturing workforce. This position is integral to the program's mission of building a strong regional workforce and connecting proactive young individuals with sustainable, well-paying jobs. The Career Coach will work closely with participants throughout the 7-week training program, which includes basic manufacturing training, certification opportunities in OSHA 10, CPR/First Aid, and Forklift operation, as well as hands-on projects and industry worksite tours. The role requires a commitment to supporting participants in overcoming barriers to employment and ensuring they acquire the academic, soft, and technical skills needed by regional employers. The Career Coach will manage a caseload of 10-15 participants, providing personalized coaching and support. Responsibilities include teaching soft skills and career readiness, developing individualized career plans, and facilitating access to job-related training and apprenticeship opportunities. The Coach will also assist participants in job search and placement efforts, ensuring they receive the necessary support until they secure employment or enter post-secondary training. This position requires strong interpersonal skills, the ability to engage with diverse community members, and a commitment to delivering trauma-informed, strength-based services. The Career Coach will also collaborate with various stakeholders, including schools, businesses, and community organizations, to enhance the program's effectiveness and reach.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and coach a caseload of 10 - 15 participants.
  • Teach soft skills and career readiness curriculum.
  • Work with participants to develop a career plan, identify job placement barriers and develop solutions.
  • Provide wrap-around services and client assistance, referring youth to support services, job-related training, work experience/internship opportunities, and apprenticeship opportunities available in the region.
  • Support youth as they progress through the Manufacturing Pre-Apprenticeship.
  • Provide job search and placement assistance or postsecondary preparation services until a participant finds employment or enters post-secondary training that meets their career goal.
  • Develop an understanding of the manufacturing sector training and employment opportunities.
  • Track and enter participant data in accordance with funder's expectations as outlined in the contract.
  • Administer stipends and client assistance.
  • Deliver trauma-informed, strength-based client services.
  • Support other CORE programs if schedule allows.
  • Assist the Program Manager as needed and support open and honest communication and inclusion of diversity.
  • Assist the Program Manager with partner relationships and collaborating organizations such as schools, businesses, government entities and other family and youth serving organizations and community groups.
  • Contribute to the team by working effectively with individuals of diverse backgrounds.
  • Complete accurate, legible and timely documentation and reporting of services delivered in accordance with the agency's management information system.
  • Meet program service standards set forth by the Anti-Poverty Department Director and/or Deputy Director regarding quantity, type and quality of services to be delivered to clients and volunteers.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three (3) years experience in human services, social work, education, or related field.
  • Ability to connect with and build relationships with at-risk youth.
  • Ability to connect with and build relationships with youth, especially with different lived experiences from yours.
  • Ability to work with people and entities across multiple sectors, including industry, non-profit, workforce development and education.
  • Ability to work in person during programming, attend in-person meetings and trainings; can work from home on occasion when not in programming.
  • Excellent coordination and organizational skills and ability to prioritize and complete multiple and varied tasks.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to engage and collaborate with a broad spectrum of community members.
  • Sensitivity and ability to relate to people from diverse lifestyles, socioeconomic levels, and cultures.
  • Work effectively within a strength-based service delivery model.
  • Computer skills including familiarity with contemporary software.
  • Must have driver's license, clean driving record, and ability to rent a car.
  • Willingness to work as a team member and support the mission and goals of Impact NW.
