About the position

The Career Coach position is focused on assisting job seekers in various Michigan Works! programs to achieve their training and employment goals. This role involves conducting interviews, assessments, and providing support services while maintaining case files and ensuring compliance with program objectives. The Career Coach will work closely with participants to develop personalized employment plans and provide necessary resources and referrals.

Responsibilities

  • Provide initial and extended interviews and assessments with participants to identify needs, interests, and abilities.
  • Assist participants in developing Individual Services Strategies and employment plans that fit their aptitudes, educational levels, physical abilities, and career goals.
  • Provide information about Michigan Works programs and services, assisting participants in selecting appropriate programs.
  • Assess and refer participants to workshops or paid training to upgrade skills.
  • Provide crisis intervention counseling and referrals for barriers to job search and employment.
  • Maintain knowledge of available resources and refer participants to community services for assistance.
  • Monitor and record participants' progress to ensure training and employment goals are met.
  • Attend career coach meetings and review new policies and procedures.
  • Prepare and maintain records and case files, including documentation of services provided and client contacts.
  • Meet or exceed established Agency performance expectations.
  • Attend professional development activities and training.
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Two to four years of experience in workforce development or equivalent training and experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of information technology, Microsoft Office Suite, and telecommunication hardware.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary for effective communication in oral and written form, with prior experience in public speaking.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Planning and time management skills with the ability to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with various stakeholders.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and maintain confidentiality while providing participant-centered services.
  • Knowledge of relevant human service programs, policies, resources, and procedures.
  • Physical ability to sit in one position for extended periods.
