About the position

The Career Coach at Denver Public Schools provides essential career exploration support and advising to adult learners and graduates of the College's Career & Technical Education programs. This role focuses on enhancing students' employability through personalized assistance in resume writing, interview preparation, and job placement support, while collaborating with various departments to ensure effective service delivery and successful student outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Critiques and edits student and graduate resumes, cover letters, and other employment documentation.
  • Advises students on workplace etiquette, dress, interviewing, and related issues.
  • Maintains relationships with graduates until employment is secured in a related field of study.
  • Works with college faculty and staff to develop career readiness curriculum and workshops.
  • Coordinates career exploration events and informs prospective students of career pathways.
  • Keeps abreast of current employment trends and maintains business community relationships for timely graduate placement.
  • Participates in academic department meetings with deans, associate deans, and instructors.
  • Tracks student and employer interactions and outcomes.
  • Makes referrals to internal and external resources to support program completion and job readiness.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor's degree or relevant work experience preferred.
  • Three years of experience in vocational counseling, vocational testing/assessment, vocational referrals, employment services, or career development/transition, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and Outlook, as well as Google Suite.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills to handle multiple demands and competing deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, and listening).
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse student population and build positive relationships with students, faculty, and staff.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in career coaching or counseling in an educational setting.
  • Familiarity with current employment trends and job market analysis.
