About the position

The Career Coach position involves providing career coaching to undergraduate and graduate students, as well as recent alumni. The role focuses on assessing individual skills and interests to help clients achieve their career goals through personalized career plans and professional development support. The coach will facilitate workshops, manage programs, and collaborate with campus partners to enhance career services and student engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Provide career coaching to individual students and small groups.
  • Assess skills, interests, strengths, and areas for development.
  • Help students create individualized career plans.
  • Assist in developing resumes, cover letters, and interviewing skills.
  • Facilitate career development workshops on various topics.
  • Respond to questions during workshops competently.
  • Collaborate with the Career Center team and campus partners on programs and projects.
  • Participate in the execution of assigned programs ensuring high student attendance.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Manage budgets responsibly for career center initiatives.
  • Support key Career Center initiatives through coaching and program development.
  • Gain expert knowledge in career development tools and resources.
  • Review and understand data on student participation rates.
  • Attend employer recruiting events and strengthen relationships with employers and alumni.
  • Conduct outreach to students and alumni for data gathering efforts.
  • Represent the Career Center at various events as assigned.
  • Maintain a professional level of conduct and attire.
  • Occasionally work evenings and weekends for events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred in counseling, higher education, or psychology-related area.
  • 1-3 years of work experience in career advising, human resources, or recruiting.
  • Proven record of success in goal achievement and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards.
  • Must be able to lift and carry parcels up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to walk short distances across campus and drive a vehicle if needed.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of technology degree programs or career paths in engineering or technology.
  • Preferred knowledge of career management platforms such as Handshake.
