About the position

The Career Coach at the University of West Georgia (UWG) plays a vital role in enhancing student retention and progression towards graduation. This position focuses on career development through personalized coaching, workshops, and presentations on various career-related topics. The Career Coach will work closely with students, faculty, and staff to facilitate career exploration and development, ensuring students are well-prepared for their future careers.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group career coaching and advising to current students and alumni.
  • Develop and coordinate career development initiatives within assigned colleges.
  • Work closely with faculty and staff to create programs that engage students in career development activities.
  • Update and monitor student data on the Career Management System, ensuring all profiles are professional and up-to-date.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge in career coaching.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • 2-3 years of work experience in a university/college setting, career services, or related fields.
  • Experience in career and professional development coaching, including resume writing and interview preparation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education, Counseling, or a closely related discipline.
  • Four or more years of Career Services experience.
  • Event management experience.
  • Experience with career resource management systems like Handshake or Symplicity.
  • Familiarity with using technology and social media for professional purposes.
