About the position

U Career Success is a vibrant team dedicated to helping students at the University of Utah achieve their career goals. We are looking for a Career Coach to join our efforts in guiding students from various majors and disciplines through their career preparation journey. This role is particularly suited for mid- to late-stage professionals or retirees who have a wealth of career experience and are eager to share their knowledge with college-aged students. The Career Coach will assist students in various aspects of career development, including resume writing, interview preparation, job searching, and networking skills. Additionally, the coach will provide guidance on personal branding and compensation negotiation for early-stage careers. The ideal candidate will be passionate about student success, adaptable to change, and possess a strong client service orientation. They should also be committed to achieving placement metrics and maintaining a high level of professionalism.

Responsibilities

  • Assists students with preparing resumes, interviewing skills, and searching for jobs electronically.
  • Utilizes department platforms such as Salesforce, Excel, Qualtrics, Acuity, and Handshake in working with students and colleagues.
  • Outreach to students and recent graduates by phone, email, social media, and/or in person to assist in job search process and obtain placement information.
  • Maintains accurate data and produces statistical reports on job placement, salaries, recruitment activities, and other information with strong detail and organizational skills.
  • Assists in preparing and publishing annual reports.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required plus three years of experience in occupational or career counseling or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) required.
  • Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required.
  • Demonstrated high level of accountability for meeting performance metrics.
  • Curious and flexible with an excellent work ethic.

Nice-to-haves

  • 5+ years of occupational experience preferred.
  • 3+ years of formal or informal mentoring experience.
