About the position

The Career Coach at Delaware State University plays a vital role in assisting students with their career exploration and development. This position involves coordinating various career-related activities, facilitating job site tours, and providing guidance on career goals and plans. The Career Coach will also develop and deliver training sessions, conduct needs assessments, and supervise work-study students, all aimed at enhancing students' readiness for the workforce.

Responsibilities

  • Assist students with career exploration through internships, shadowing experiences, employment, volunteering, and other career-related activities.
  • Coordinate and facilitate job site tours, career fairs, workshops, and other career-related activities.
  • Assist students with occupational, educational, and employment research using experiential learning techniques.
  • Help students establish short- and long-term career goals and plans for mobility and progression.
  • Contribute to career education curriculum development and instructional techniques.
  • Develop and facilitate training sessions for professional development, career education, and recruiting.
  • Conduct needs assessments for students, faculty, and employers.
  • Refer students to other support services when necessary.
  • Facilitate career education seminars in workplace readiness, leadership development, and teamwork.
  • Direct students to vocational resources and assist with applications for graduate school, scholarships, and employment.
  • Supervise work-study students.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Education, Counseling, Human Resources, or a related field.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in career and/or academic coaching, advising, and counseling at the collegiate level.
  • Good working knowledge of methods and theories of career development and coaching.
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience interacting effectively with multicultural students at the collegiate level.
  • Knowledge of curriculum development and classroom management.
  • Knowledge in labor relations, employment, and staffing.
  • Ability to present information effectively in a classroom or seminar format.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.

  • Experience in developing and managing special projects.
  • Experience with innovating and managing academic and career-related programs.
