About the position

The Career Coach position at Radford University plays a pivotal role in the Center for Career & Talent Development, focusing on preparing students for their future careers and life challenges. Reporting directly to the Director, the Career Coach will work collaboratively with academic and industry partners to foster a culture of innovative career advising. This role is essential in guiding students through various career pathways, helping them secure internships and full-time employment opportunities. The Career Coach will assist students in developing critical job application materials, including resumes and cover letters, and will conduct mock interviews to enhance their interview skills. Additionally, the position involves teaching students effective career networking strategies and assisting them in creating professional LinkedIn profiles. The Career Coach will also collaborate with the Center's Employer Relations team to build and maintain partnerships with businesses and industries, identifying high-quality career opportunities and internships for students. This role requires a proactive approach to career advising, ensuring that students are well-prepared to enter the workforce with confidence and competence. The Career Coach will engage with a diverse student population, including those from marginalized backgrounds, and will be responsible for creating an inclusive environment that supports all students in their career development journey.

Responsibilities

  • Assist students in writing resumes and cover letters.
  • Conduct mock interviews to prepare students for real-world scenarios.
  • Teach career networking strategies to students.
  • Help students create and optimize their LinkedIn profiles.
  • Collaborate with the Employer Relations team to identify career opportunities and internships.
  • Engage in advising and coaching college students on self-assessment and career exploration.
  • Maintain professional connections to understand emerging hiring trends.
  • Manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree or equivalent training and work experience.
  • Experience advising and coaching college students on career-related skills.
  • Proven ability to engage students from marginalized backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated presentation and communication skills with diverse stakeholders.
  • Possess a growth mindset and entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and make independent decisions.
  • Expertise in software programs such as Microsoft Office, Handshake, and Career Shift CRM.
  • Highly organized with attention to detail and accuracy in work.

Nice-to-haves

  • At least 1 year of experience in a college or university Career Center or similar environment.
  • Advanced project and program management abilities.
  • Experience coaching a diverse population of students.
  • Ability to cultivate relationships with faculty, alumni, and industry partners.
  • Previous experience with internships and work-based learning programs.

Benefits

  • Commensurate hiring range based on experience.
  • Full-time position with a normal work schedule of 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday, with occasional evenings and weekends.
