About the position

The Career Coach at The Arc Erie County New York plays a vital role in supporting individuals with disabilities in achieving their employment goals. This position involves working closely with clients to provide job readiness training, job development, and ongoing support to ensure successful job placements. The Career Coach will collaborate with local businesses to create work experiences and internships tailored to the needs of individuals, while also maintaining communication with all stakeholders involved in the employment process.

Responsibilities

  • Contact local businesses and employers to develop work experiences, internships, job shadows, and employment opportunities for individuals based on their employment goals.
  • Provide intensive on-site training when an individual starts a job or is assigned new duties to ensure job stability.
  • Maintain Department of Labor guidelines for work experiences and career exploration for individuals with disabilities.
  • Meet with individuals at least twice a month to provide service delivery activities towards pre- and post-employment goals.
  • Report progress of meetings to the manager on case direction and develop timely analyses reflective of job duties.
  • Make face-to-face worksite visits to assess job stability and performance, visiting individuals onsite minimally twice a month.
  • Maintain appropriate communication with parents, teachers, school staff, funders, and employers regarding individual progress.
  • Assist in establishing working relationships with community services and referral agencies to provide comprehensive services.
  • Provide mobility training for safe and efficient use of transportation systems for individuals.
  • Complete all administrative tasks related to individual cases, including updating employment plans and writing monthly summaries.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in Human Services, Business Administration, or a closely related field plus one year of full-time direct service experience with persons with developmental disabilities.
  • High school diploma or equivalent plus three years of full-time direct service experience with persons with developmental disabilities.
  • Valid New York State Driver's License with an approved driving record and reliable transportation.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior vocational or pre-vocational experience preferred.
  • Professional certification is desired.
