About the position

The Career Coach position is designed to support Opportunity Youth (ages 16 to 24) in Houston, TX, by providing them with GED, post-secondary education, and employment assistance. The role involves determining eligibility for the Workforce Solutions NextGen Youth Program, conducting interviews, and serving as a liaison to various educational and employment resources. The Career Coach will also engage in community outreach and maintain partnerships to further the mission of SER.

Responsibilities

  • Provide career counseling, mentoring, employment, and financial aid services to young adults ages 16 to 24.
  • Complete comprehensive assessments to determine the needs, employment challenges, and career goals of young adults.
  • Collect and analyze documents to determine eligibility for the Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act (WIOA) funds.
  • Develop and manage individual employment and service plans.
  • Create and manage electronic and physical client records.
  • Collect and upload eligibility documents for state and federal programs.
  • Approve and issue financial aid for vocational training and support services.
  • Assist job seekers in applying for internal and external scholarships and grants.
  • Provide job search, job referrals, and job placement assistance.
  • Engage in community outreach events to connect young adults with necessary resources.
  • Collaborate with community colleges, vocational schools, and other community agencies.
  • Work with employers and job developers to create employment opportunities for young adults.
  • Use Salesforce, DocuWare, and TWIST to record, track, and manage performance outcomes.
  • Build and maintain a community partner network to ensure a referral pipeline continuum.
  • Adhere to SER's administrative and recordkeeping guidelines to support accurate bookkeeping and documentation of activities.
  • Travel to and from designated county and office to meet the needs of young adults.
  • Maintain a clean and professional working environment as the sole staff member of a satellite office.

Requirements

  • Bilingual preferred (English/Spanish).
  • Strong leadership skills, results-driven, and detail-oriented.
  • Familiarity with the Workforce Solutions System and databases preferred.
  • Knowledge of community organizations and resources within the Houston, Galveston Region.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Ability to handle information in a confidential manner.
  • Willingness to engage in continuous learning and training.
  • Ability to interact and maintain good working relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds.
