About the position

The position is responsible for overseeing the career transition services (CTS) for assignees, focusing on job search skills, job placement, and retention. The role involves mentoring and preparing young individuals for the workforce by adhering to the Career Success Standards. The individual will manage a caseload of students, ensuring they are connected with job opportunities, educational resources, or military service, while also maintaining accurate records and providing support throughout their transition process.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct interviews with students preparing to exit the center.
  • Provide re-orientation and focus on job search techniques.
  • Create and maintain a caseload of active assignee files, establishing a tickler system for management.
  • Maintain bi-weekly or monthly contact with assignees and document actions in CTS case notes.
  • Attend meetings related to Career Transition student/process issues.
  • Visit classrooms and trade shops to familiarize students with CTS processes and employability skills.
  • Familiarize students with military, school, and job opportunities.
  • Provide workshops to exiting students and assigned caseload.
  • Assist center staff with job fairs and career days planning and execution.
  • Maintain linkages with military services and external resources; secure and post job leads.
  • Perform job development by screening leads from various sources.
  • Ensure all necessary documents for job search are completed prior to student exit.
  • Initiate transfers for students relocating and identify support services needed for independent living.
  • Develop and maintain a resource center for support services.
  • Participate in the students' Career Assessment Panel.
  • Ensure timely distribution of assignee checks and inform them of payment processes.
  • Meet regularly with center staff to facilitate contact and placement information.
  • Ensure secure storage of Personally Identifiable Information and valuable items.
  • Initiate contact with former enrollee assignees before or after exiting the center.
  • Utilize data and CTS system for placement opportunities and track individual performance.
  • Complete appeals process and verify placements to reconcile errors in surveys.
  • Provide additional assistance to meet overall department placement goals.
  • Attend required staff training sessions and maintain accountability of staff and students.
  • Cultivate a respectful and safe climate for staff and students.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in human services, psychology, counseling, education, social science, business, communications, or closely related field; or an Associate's degree with two years of related experience.
  • Prefer Job Corps experience.
  • Valid driver's license in the state of employment with an acceptable driving record preferred.
  • Sound knowledge of case management, career counseling, and job search techniques.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate students.
  • Must obtain and maintain CPR/First Aid certification.
