About the position

The Career Coach position is designed to support high school students in defining their career aspirations and exploring various educational pathways, including community college and workforce training programs. This role will be supervised by the College Liaison for Western Piedmont Community College and Burke County Public Schools, and the Career Coach will be stationed in five local high schools. The primary objective of the Career Coach is to help students view their high school education as a foundational step in their educational journey, rather than an endpoint. By empowering students to make informed decisions regarding their career and educational plans, the Career Coach plays a crucial role in preparing them for success in post-secondary educational training. In this position, the Career Coach will engage with students to provide guidance on career exploration and educational opportunities. This includes facilitating discussions about various postsecondary programs, assisting students in understanding the requirements for different career paths, and helping them navigate the application processes for community colleges and other training programs. The Career Coach will also work to foster relationships with local businesses and organizations to create opportunities for job-shadowing, internships, and cooperative education experiences that can enhance students' learning and career readiness. The Career Coach will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to diversity and inclusion, ensuring that all students feel supported and valued in their career exploration efforts.
