About the position

The Career Coach position at the Detroit at Work Career Center involves assessing customers' career readiness and providing tailored career coaching services. The role focuses on developing individual career plans, addressing barriers to employment, and connecting customers with job placement services. The Career Coach will work closely with clients to enhance their marketability and ensure successful outcomes in their job search efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Interviews customers to assess service needs and reviews applications to identify barriers.
  • Develops a Career Plan with customers that outlines interests, goals, and placement strategies.
  • Assesses job readiness and recommends strategies to enhance marketability, including referrals to training.
  • Identifies service gaps and prepares reports on barriers to services, along with action plans.
  • Provides counseling and supportive services to address barriers to program completion.
  • Ensures customers are connected with job placement services.
  • Collaborates with Talent Sourcing Specialist for successful customer outcomes.
  • Maintains case reporting in MIS systems and customer files, documenting all program activities.
  • Re-engages customers needing additional employment and career coaching services.
  • Documents efforts and outcomes related to customer progress.
  • Maintains knowledge of labor market trends and makes policy recommendations as needed.
  • Attends meetings to address participant concerns and conducts home visits as necessary.

Requirements

  • Experience in career planning, placement, employment, training, or a related field preferred.
  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • Knowledge of education, training, and community resources; career coaching principles and methods.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population and communicate effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
  • Bilingual language skills preferred.
  • Valid Michigan Driver's License and reliable transportation.
