About the position

The Career Services Specialist at Olympic College plays a crucial role in providing career and employment-planning services to both enrolled and former students. Under the general supervision of the Associate Dean of Retention, this position is designed to engage and connect with students from their admission through to their employment, ensuring they are equipped with the necessary skills and resources to enhance their employability upon completion of their Professional-Technical degree or certificate. The specialist will assist students in various aspects of their job search, including resume preparation, interviewing techniques, and job application processes. In addition to direct student support, the Career Services Specialist will collaborate with faculty to provide career development information and promote job listings and internship opportunities. This role involves conducting career assessments, administering career interest inventories, and referring students to appropriate programs and faculty that align with their career interests and skill levels. The specialist will also coordinate with other departments, such as Advising and Counseling, to ensure a holistic approach to career readiness and development. The position requires the specialist to conduct information sessions, mock interviews, and workshops aimed at enhancing students' job search skills. Furthermore, the specialist will assist employers in promoting their job and internship opportunities, thereby facilitating connections between students and potential employers. The overarching goal of this position is to support students in their career development journey, ensuring they are well-prepared for the workforce upon graduation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide career and employment-planning services to assist students with job search, resume preparation, and interviewing skills.
  • Support the Associate Dean in achieving Career Center goals and initiatives for student career readiness.
  • Incorporate Guided Pathways program outcomes into students' employment plans and skill development.
  • Administer career interest inventories and assessments, referring students to appropriate programs and faculty.
  • Conduct new student employment hiring orientations and assist with on- and off-campus referrals to employment and internships.
  • Provide support to faculty by conducting information sessions about career services and job search presentations.
  • Conduct mock interview sessions and provide critiques of student resumes.
  • Coordinate services with other areas such as Advising and Counseling and Workforce Development.
  • Assist employers with online job board promotion and coordinate interview processes.
  • Plan and organize career fairs and workshops.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of experience providing direct career and employment-planning services.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in education, social/human services, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of Professional-Technical programs.
  • Knowledge of Student Employment, Federal Work Study, and related guidelines.
  • Knowledge of Financial Aid application processes and timelines.
  • Experience with Career Assessment and Career Readiness Strategies.
