About the position

The Career Services Specialist at Olympic College is a full-time position that plays a crucial role in providing career and employment-planning services to both enrolled and former students. Under the general supervision of the Associate Dean of Retention, the specialist will engage with students from their admission through to their employment, aiming to enhance their employability upon completion of their Professional-Technical degree or certificate. The position is designed to support students in various aspects of their career development, including job search strategies, resume preparation, interviewing techniques, and personal branding. The specialist will also collaborate with faculty to provide career development information and promote job listings and internship opportunities for students and graduates. This role involves conducting career assessments, administering interest inventories, and referring students to appropriate programs and faculty that align with their career interests and skill levels. Additionally, the specialist will coordinate with other departments such as Advising and Counseling, Workforce Development, and the Welcome Center to ensure a holistic approach to career readiness. The goal of this position is to actively connect with students and provide comprehensive support that prepares them for successful transitions into the workforce. The specialist will also assist in organizing career fairs, workshops, and other events that promote student engagement with potential employers. Overall, this role is vital in fostering a supportive environment that encourages student success and career readiness.

Responsibilities

  • Provide career and employment-planning services to students.
  • Assist students with job search, resume preparation, and interviewing skills.
  • Support the Associate Dean in achieving Career Center goals and initiatives.
  • Incorporate Guided Pathways program outcomes into students' employment plans.
  • Administer career interest inventories and assessments.
  • Conduct new student employment hiring orientations.
  • Provide support to faculty for career services and job search presentations.
  • Coordinate services with other departments such as Advising and Counseling.
  • Assist employers in promoting job and internship opportunities.
  • Plan and organize career fairs and workshops.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of experience providing direct career and employment-planning services.
  • Bachelor's degree in education, social/human services, or a related field (preferred).
  • Knowledge of Professional-Technical programs and community college students.
  • Experience with Career Assessment and Career Readiness Strategies.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, oral, and technological communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Student Employment, Federal Work Study, and related guidelines.
  • Knowledge of Financial Aid application processes and timelines.
  • Experience working with non-traditional students.
