The Career Coach at Virginia Union University (VUU) plays a pivotal role in guiding students towards achieving their career and professional aspirations. This position is designed to assist students in planning and developing effective pathways that align with their individual goals. The Career Coach will conduct career mapping sessions, which are essential for helping students identify their strengths and the best strategies to navigate their career paths. This role is not only about providing guidance but also involves coordinating various career-related activities that enhance the students' readiness for the job market. In addition to direct coaching, the Career Coach will assess students' strengths and advise them on how to leverage these strengths to secure employment or excel in their chosen fields. This includes providing tailored information on suitable career paths based on each student's unique skills, qualifications, interests, and experiences. A significant part of the role involves assisting students in reviewing and improving their resumes, ensuring that they meet industry standards and effectively showcase their qualifications. The Career Coach will also maintain accurate records of students' progress, tracking their development and outcomes to ensure that they are on the right path. Serving as a liaison with employers is another critical aspect of this role, as it involves identifying job opportunities for students and fostering relationships that enhance employment prospects. The Career Coach will train and supervise assigned student workers, implement research study protocols, and follow best practices as directed by the Director of Workforce Development and Training. Additionally, the Career Coach will prepare internal and external reports, assist with grant data collection, and conduct both face-to-face and virtual meetings with students. Creating materials, guides, and facilitating training sessions related to departmental needs is also part of the responsibilities, ensuring that all resources are relevant and up-to-date. The role may require some travel to attend meetings, career fairs, and other events related to career coaching.
