About the position

The Advising and Career Development Center (ACDC) at Western Kentucky University (WKU) plays a crucial role in assisting students and alumni in identifying and achieving their career and employment goals. This position is designed to provide comprehensive career coaching services, which include career exploration, job search guidance, resume and portfolio reviews, mock interviews, and the development of essential soft skills. The Career Coach will work closely with students and alumni through individualized appointments, group counseling sessions, presentations, and workshops, ensuring that they are well-prepared to enter the workforce or pursue further education. In addition to direct coaching, the Career Coach will assist in the planning and execution of on-campus career fairs, providing students with opportunities to connect with potential employers. The role also involves assessing student career aptitude and reviewing career exploration inventory results to help students determine suitable academic majors and career paths. The Career Coach will support students in locating co-op experiences, internships, and other experiential learning opportunities, as well as part-time and full-time employment or graduate school options upon graduation. The position requires the creation and presentation of workshops and presentations tailored for various student and faculty groups. The Career Coach will also attend on-campus events and programmatic initiatives, which may occasionally require evening and weekend work hours. Collaboration with academic advisors and faculty is essential to deliver effective services to students expressing career concerns during advising appointments. The Career Coach will partner with deans and department heads to develop recurring service delivery plans and marketing strategies, implementing strategies to enhance collaborations with academic partners to meet the career development needs of students and alumni.

Responsibilities

  • Provide career coaching to students and alumni through career exploration, job search guidance, resume and portfolio review, mock interviews, and soft skill development
  • Provide coaching services to students and alumni through individualized appointments, group counseling sessions, presentations, and workshops
  • Assist with the planning and execution of on-campus career fairs
  • Assess student career aptitude and review career exploration inventory results to determine and discuss potential academic major and career opportunities
  • Assist students in locating co-op experiences, internship experiences, or other experiential learning opportunities, as well as part-time/full-time employment or graduate school opportunities upon graduation
  • Create and present presentations and workshops for various student and faculty groups
  • Attend on-campus events and programmatic initiatives, which will occasionally involve evening and weekend work hours
  • Attend meetings and trainings, communicate opportunities for departmental growth, and assist with departmental, divisional, and university programming initiatives and events
  • Collaborate with academic advisors to deliver service to students who express career concerns during advising appointments
  • Partner with deans, department heads, and individual faculty to develop reoccurring service delivery plans and marketing strategies
  • Implement strategies to enhance collaborations with academic partners to meet student and alumni career development needs

Requirements

  • Earned Bachelor's degree by position start date
  • Prior relevant work experience
  • Ability to work some evening and weekend hours
