About the position

The Career Counselor at Jericho Project will provide workforce development services to program participants, focusing on helping them achieve employment, educational goals, and skills development. This role involves managing a caseload of approximately 80 individuals, engaging in outreach, conducting assessments, and collaborating with the case management team to ensure participants meet their employment and educational objectives. The Career Counselor will also assist participants in job readiness, job searches, and provide follow-up services to ensure job retention.

Responsibilities

  • Provide workforce development services to program participants.
  • Manage a caseload of about 80 individuals within the Families Portfolio.
  • Maintain active engagement in all phases of tenant enrollment in Workforce Opportunities services.
  • Develop and implement effective client engagement strategies.
  • Conduct bi-weekly outreach to all participants and maintain related progress notes.
  • Complete employment and educational assessments on all participants and update service plans.
  • Identify and refer participants to job training programs and educational opportunities.
  • Assist participants in developing a job readiness portfolio, including resumes and cover letters.
  • Work closely with Employment Specialists to respond to job leads and refer participants for matching positions.
  • Assist participants in conducting independent job searches and making direct referrals to employers.
  • Provide job retention and follow-up services for a minimum of two years to employed participants.
  • Access community resources to aid participants in job search and retention efforts.
  • Participate in case conferencing sessions with the case management team and program director.
  • Attend monthly team meetings and supervisory meetings as required.
  • Maintain and update participant records in AWARDS within required time frames.
  • Provide reports on participant engagement and job placement outcomes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree is required.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience in workforce development and service delivery to low-income individuals with significant barriers to employment required.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Flexibility to provide services in multiple buildings.
  • Ability to help 60 job seekers secure employment and reach job retention milestones.
  • High level of computer literacy and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working with individuals in recovery and those experiencing homelessness is preferred.
  • Experience providing supported employment services to individuals with disabilities is preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience in helping low-income job seekers find and keep jobs.
  • Working knowledge of AWARDS is desirable.
  • Knowledge and experience in the application of Motivational Interviewing and Person-centered planning preferred.
