About the position

The Career Counselor - Job Placement position at MassHire Springfield Career Center is focused on assisting job seekers in their employment journey. This role involves providing a variety of services including recruitment, eligibility determination, and support for individuals seeking training opportunities to enhance their job marketability. The counselor will work closely with training providers and the workforce development ecosystem to connect clients with resources and support services, ensuring a comprehensive approach to job placement and career development.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a broad range of services to job seekers in their job search.
  • Connect existing Career Center customers to training opportunities.
  • Utilize data to recruit customers.
  • Meet with and assess the needs of Career Center customers, including career aspirations and current skill level.
  • Assess customer's fit with training programs to ensure enrollment readiness.
  • Support customers by answering basic questions and making direct connections to training partners.
  • Assist customers in navigating resources and refer them to support services before and after training enrollment.
  • Provide customers post-placement support.
  • Develop expertise on training providers in the area.
  • Record data on customer interactions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree preferred, preferably in counseling, social work, or a human services field.
  • Three or more years of experience working in counseling and/or case management; knowledge of job search, career planning, and development is desirable.
  • Detail-oriented with customer service, coaching, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong writing, verbal, and listening skills; proven presentation skills to facilitate workshops.
  • Ability to execute multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment; ability to work with a diverse population.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint).
  • Demonstrated reliability and dependability.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bi-lingual language skills (English/Spanish) highly desirable.
