About the position

The Career Counselor at the Shah Center for Engineering Career Development is responsible for fostering employer relations, engaging students in co-op opportunities, and organizing career-related events. This role emphasizes a student-centered approach and requires collaboration within a team and networking with external partners.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain employer relations to enhance job opportunities for students.
• Engage students in co-op programs and career development activities.
• Organize and facilitate career events, including career fairs.
• Provide career counseling and advising to students.
• Collaborate with faculty and staff to support student career readiness.
• Network with external entities to promote career opportunities for students.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in education, human resources, psychology, business, or a related area.
• At least 2 years of experience in student advising, career counseling, employer relations, human resources, or event planning, preferably in a higher education environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to work as a team player and adapt to change.
• Strong problem-solving skills and critical thinking abilities.
• Capacity to manage stressful situations, including during Career Fair events.
• Ability to engage with students experiencing mental health issues.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in higher education career services.
• Knowledge of career development theories and practices.
