About the position

The Career Services Advisor plays a crucial role in assisting students and graduates in securing employment through various services, including job placement, externship coordination, and career seminars. This position focuses on preparing students for the job market by providing guidance on resume writing, interview techniques, and job search strategies, while also maintaining relationships with employers to facilitate job opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct job development sales activities such as employer calls and office visits.
  • Meet and exceed daily, weekly, and modular activity goals to achieve modular employment start goals.
  • Maintain relationships with students and graduates to ensure appropriate interaction with employers.
  • Attend business functions, trade shows, and professional organizations' meetings for networking and employer development.
  • Meet with instructors to discuss employer needs and available openings.
  • Attend Advisory Board meetings to represent Career Services.
  • Contact potential sites for the development of new student externship commitments.
  • Coordinate and supervise the externship process and provide midterm reviews to increase extern to hire opportunities.
  • Complete required documentation for tracking externship hours and student performance.
  • Assess and analyze student mastery of course and program learning outcomes.
  • Notify the Registrar when students successfully complete their externship course.
  • Provide support to help students prepare resumes, employment search strategies, and interview techniques.
  • Partner with students in job search strategies and coaching that leads to employability.
  • Maintain timely and accurate documentation and records to ensure compliance.
  • Administer all orientations for Externship and the Career Services Seminar.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in a relevant field.
  • Three years of job development or placement experience, preferably in an educational setting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook).
  • Experience in academic advising for at least 1 year.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations and interpret data.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Ellucian software.
  • Knowledge of job market trends and employer needs.
