This position as a Career Services & Coop Advisor is pivotal in developing and delivering comprehensive co-op and career services tailored for both domestic and international students. The advisor will counsel students on various aspects of career development, including co-op/job acquisition, career exploration, and career management, ensuring they are well-prepared for internships and the transition to professional employment. In this role, the advisor will engage in individual client case management, providing personalized counseling and coaching through in-person, phone, and video appointments. They will maintain electronic records of each student's progress and assist them in researching career paths, identifying job opportunities, and enhancing their skills. The advisor will also support students in their job search processes, including crafting cover letters, networking, resume writing, interviewing techniques, and salary negotiation. Staying informed about career and economic trends is essential to guide students effectively. The advisor will also be responsible for program design and management, collaborating with academic faculty and cooperative education coordinators to create targeted programming. They will assist in the design, implementation, and evaluation of innovative career education programs, working closely with student services departments and organizations to promote these initiatives. Tracking and reporting on student placement data, developing surveys to gauge student and employer experiences, and managing student interactions with career development events are key components of this role. Additionally, the advisor will play a crucial role in employer relations, helping to build and deepen relationships with employers to enhance employment opportunities for students. They will organize career fairs, employer information sessions, and facilitate on-campus or video interviews, ensuring students have meaningful exchanges with potential employers. Researching employment trends and best hiring practices will also be part of their responsibilities, contributing to strategies that encourage employers to hire Northeastern students.

Responsibilities

  • Counsel and coach students via individual in person, phone, and video appointments regarding career development, career paths, and skill building.
  • Maintain electronic records of each student's progress in Northeastern database.
  • Assist students with researching career paths, identifying full time job opportunities, and expanding their experience/skills.
  • Assist students with their job search process including cover letters, networking, resumes, interviewing techniques, and salary negotiation.
  • Maintain broad, current knowledge of career and economic trends and their impact on career paths.
  • Collaborate and build relationships with academic faculty/advisers and cooperative education coordinators to design targeted programming.
  • Assist with the design, implementation, and evaluation of comprehensive, innovative career education programs for students.
  • Collaborate with student services departments and student organizations on joint programming.
  • Increase visibility and attendance for programs through promotion and public relations campaigns.
  • Track, maintain, and produce reports on student placement data (internship, co-op, and permanent placement).
  • Develop and execute surveys that keep the pulse on both student and employer experiences.
  • Track, manage, and facilitate student interactions with career development events and experiential programs using online databases.
  • Help provide and interpret predictive analysis of student participation trends.
  • Develop other student management/tracking/measuring resources as needed.
  • Aid in stewarding and deepening relationships with employers to increase employment opportunities.
  • Play key role in organization of career fairs, employer info sessions, and on-campus or video interviews.
  • Coordinate programming initiatives for students that facilitate meaningful exchanges with employers.
  • Participate in employer events and site visits.
  • Assist in the recruitment of employers to participate in activities on campus with students.
  • Research employment trends, the development of best hiring practices, and contribute to a strategy for encouraging employers to hire Northeastern students.

Requirements

  • Excellent counseling, teaching, and event management skills.
  • Experience in delivering programs with technology required.
  • Detail-oriented, multi-tasker who can lead projects and work collaboratively across university divisions.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work well with students, staff, faculty, alumni, and external partners.
  • Master's degree with one to three years of experience in career development, experiential education, or an advising setting.
  • Experience working effectively with students.
