About the position

The Career Services Digital Media Intern position is designed to support the Career Services Marketing and Communication Team at Illinois State University. This role involves assisting in the implementation of various marketing and communication strategies aimed at promoting the department's services, events, and resources. The intern will engage in a variety of tasks that include creating and managing content for social media platforms, producing digital media, and ensuring that all communications are accessible and representative of the diverse Illinois State community. In this position, the intern will be responsible for identifying, creating, editing, and publishing engaging posts, videos, and motion graphics tailored for the department's social media channels and digital displays. The intern will also assist in producing podcasts for the department, which will enhance their skills in audio and video production. Additionally, the intern will be tasked with monitoring trends in social and digital media, photography, and videography to keep the department's content fresh and relevant. The role requires the intern to take photos and videos at various department events, serving as both a student talent and voiceover artist when necessary. This hands-on experience will not only help the intern develop practical marketing and communication skills but also provide them with an opportunity to enhance their organizational and professional skills through diverse projects. The position is structured to foster career readiness and development, equipping the intern with essential skills that are applicable in their future professional endeavors.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with implementing the department's annual marketing and communication plans, including social media and electronic communication.
  • Identify, create, edit, and publish posts, videos, and motion graphics for the department's social media platforms and digital displays.
  • Assist with producing department podcasts.
  • Identify trends in social and digital media, photography, and videography.
  • Ensure social media posts and videos are accessible and representative of the Illinois State population.
  • Serve as student talent and voiceover in videos as needed.
  • Take photos and videos at department events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled undergraduate student of Illinois State, majoring in creative technology, communications, or graphic arts.
  • Proficient use of video production software (i.e., Premiere Pro), animation software (i.e., After Effects), and graphic design software (i.e., Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, etc.).
  • Strong awareness of social media trends and ability to implement social media tactics.
  • At least a 2.0 cumulative GPA.
  • Availability to work Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., with occasional evening hours based on department needs.
