About the position

The Career Skills Coach will play a pivotal role in coordinating, tracking, and delivering essential services related to counseling and career advising within the Metropolitan Community College's Workforce Education Division. This part-time, temporary position is designed to support community organizations and American Jobs Center Partners by administering the National Career Readiness Certifications (NCRC) tests and providing comprehensive career services. The Coach will be responsible for developing individualized career plans tailored to the educational and career goals of student participants, assessing their skills and needs, and offering guidance through various career-related workshops. These workshops will cover critical topics such as resume writing, interview skills, online job searches, and networking strategies to enhance job-seeking capabilities. In addition to direct advising, the Coach will maintain the security of all assessment instruments and intake documents, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with relevant policies. The role also involves coordinating referrals to and from project partners and college resources, facilitating successful completion of educational and career objectives. The Coach will work closely with internal staff, faculty, and industry representatives to identify and establish opportunities for cooperative education, internships, apprenticeships, and employment, thereby creating talent pipelines for local businesses. The position requires a proactive approach to mentoring, particularly in WorkKeys training programs through KeyTrain modules, and the ability to serve as a proctor for certification programs, accommodating candidates with documented Individual Education Plans (IEPs). The Coach will also coordinate with external partners to facilitate various training certifications, ensuring a comprehensive support system for students and community members seeking career advancement.

Responsibilities

  • Administers Nation Career Readiness Certifications (NCRC) to community organizations and American Jobs Center Partners.
  • Develops individualized Career Plans by coordinating the assessment of student participants' educational and career goals, skills, experience, and needs; providing educational and career advising.
  • Coordinates career services workshops on various career-related topics such as resume writing, interview skills, online job searches, and networking for jobs.
  • Schedules appointments for individuals to complete assessments and intake processes.
  • Maintains security of all assessment instruments and intake documents.
  • Provides prospective students with general information about College programs and services.
  • Provides or facilitates individualized mentoring support which focuses on WorkKeys training programs through KeyTrain modules.
  • Coordinates referrals to/from project partners and college resources to assist students in successful completion of educational and career goals.
  • Coordinates with internal staff and faculty and industry to identify and establish opportunities for cooperative education, internships, apprenticeships, and employment in jobs.
  • Serves as a proctor for certification programs; establishes assessment accommodations or exceptions for candidates with documented Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  • Coordinates with external partners to schedule and facilitate a multitude of training certifications with local agencies and schools.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent plus three (3) years of full-time work-related experience in advising, coaching, case management, and/or counseling, preferably in higher education.
  • Must complete required certifications to administer all specialized assessments within 90 days from hire.
  • Knowledge of conducting tests.
  • Knowledge of student advising procedures as it relates to ESL, NCRC, Smarter Measures, and other testing facility functions.
  • Knowledge of College policies and procedures.
  • Skill in communication, both written and orally, along with excellent spelling, grammar, and editing skills.
  • Skill in resolving problems and answering questions.
  • Proficient interpersonal skills to collaboratively interact with internal and external contacts.
  • Strong skills and aptitude with communications and office technologies, for delivering workshops, updating online resources, engaging in online virtual education environments, and tracking, aggregating and reporting individual and service data.
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Ability to provide direction and support to internal and external contacts.
  • Ability to work well with minimal supervision in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and to work with diverse internal and external constituents.
  • Ability to ensure privacy and candidate compliance during testing, reporting breach of security or irregularities to the appropriate parties when necessary.
  • Ability to effectively work and interact with various cultures and ethnicities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in higher education advising or counseling.
  • Familiarity with the National Career Readiness Certification (NCRC) process.
  • Experience in developing and facilitating workshops.
