About The Position

The Career Specialist at the University of Massachusetts Donahue Institute (UMDI) MassHire Greater Brockton Career Center (MHGBCC) plays a crucial role in providing direct services to job seekers. This position focuses on job counseling, workshop instruction, and networking to ensure that job seekers are equipped with the necessary information, training, and skills to meet local employment demands. The Career Specialist also manages data entry and reporting requirements to comply with U.S. Department of Labor standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or three years of experience in Workforce Development, Human Resources, or Counseling.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Knowledge of workforce development and employment counseling techniques.
• Desire to serve diverse populations with acceptance of various demographic factors.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Strong organizational skills and solid computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Nice To Haves

• Ability to speak, read, and write in additional languages such as Spanish, Cape Verdean, Haitian/Creole, and Portuguese.
• Knowledge of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act and other Federal and State programs.

Responsibilities

• Provide job counseling and workshop instruction to job seekers.
• Facilitate comprehensive re-employment services including assessments, individual counseling, and job placement.
• Coordinate with the Business Services unit to match job seekers with employment opportunities.
• Monitor and document program-specific performance benchmarks and adjust operations accordingly.
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal program requirements through accurate documentation in MOSES and other systems.
• Cross-train and provide coverage for other team members as needed.
• Participate in MassHire and UMDI initiatives.
