About the position

The Career Specialist plays a crucial role in delivering case management services aimed at supporting program participants in their employment and educational journeys. This position involves providing training, job development, and placement assistance, as well as facilitating client training and assessments to meet the employment development needs of enrolled participants.

Responsibilities

  • Collect and maintain applicants' eligibility documents and complete the intake process to determine program eligibility.
  • Conduct assessments of skills and services needed, including skill levels, aptitudes, abilities, and supportive service needs.
  • Offer career counseling and guidance to program participants and applicants.
  • Assist clients in identifying personal goals for education and employment, developing leadership skills, and planning career pathways to achieve self-sufficiency.
  • Help customers develop resumes and cover letters, apply for employment opportunities, and strategize for successful job interviews.
  • Connect participants with necessary resources such as tutoring, health insurance, counseling, childcare, food, housing, financial aid, skill-specific training, mentors, and leadership development opportunities.
  • Maintain case files for all participants, including case notes, contact dates, activity logs, and all participant forms and documents.
  • Maintain contact with participants placed in employment and provide follow-up services to ensure job retention and address barriers to retention.
  • Promote program objectives through public presentations and public relations activities, including social media.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with potential partners and seek collaborative opportunities that support the mission.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Eighteen (18) months of full-time experience demonstrating the ability to effectively perform the duties of this position, or a satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word and Excel, and database software.
  • Knowledge of the communities being served, with an understanding of local needs and resources.
