About the position
The Personal Care Attendant (PCA) role involves providing non-skilled personal care and homemaker services to clients in their homes. The PCA works under the supervision of agency personnel and is responsible for assisting clients with daily living activities while promoting their independence and well-being.
Responsibilities
- Help clients maintain personal hygiene.
- Assist in maintaining a healthful, safe environment.
- Plan and prepare nutritious meals.
- Shop for groceries and supplies as instructed by the client.
- Assist clients with non-skilled personal care tasks such as bathing, skin care, hair care, and dressing.
- Encourage clients to become as independent as possible within the activities allowed in the plan of care.
- Provide positive emotional support while performing tasks in the client's home.
- Perform routine housekeeping tasks related to a safe and comfortable environment for the client.
- Complete visit reports documenting services provided and obtain client's signature each visit.
- Report any client concerns or condition changes to the Agency Supervisor.
Requirements
- Completion of the ninth grade; prefer high school graduate.
- Ability to read and write consistent with job requirements.
- Possession of emotional and cognitive maturity necessary for establishing good working relationships.
- Neat, clean personal appearance.
- Free from health problems that may be injurious to client, self, and coworkers.
- Must have annual TB skin tests and submit proof to Human Resources.
- Possess reliable transportation.
- Ability to demonstrate appropriate knowledge and skills related to personal care.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with caregiving methodology.
- Knowledge of nutrition and meal preparation principles.
- Understanding of the aging process and emotional issues related to illness.
